Fostering Innovation: Reflections from SDMS 2024
“Ultrasound pairs a unique love of patient care skills along with continual career advancement to keep up with improving technology.”
Several months ago, we realized networking would be a key component to getting the name of Innovative Ultrasound Solutions out into more places. Since then, we have attended two conferences that have both presented unique learning and networking opportunities.
I’d like to share some reflections from our time at our most recent conference, the 2024 SDMS (Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.
There is a certain camaraderie that arises when multiple people from the same profession gather together with the goal of learning and improving professionally. SDMS 2024 was no different. Each sonographer there was challenged to remember why we got into the field of ultrasound in the first place, and with multiple modality learning tracks, we were able to supplement our knowledge in numerous ways. Ultrasound pairs a unique love of patient care skills along with continual career advancement to keep up with improving technology. Several tables lined the exhibit hall with machines, cleaning solutions, and even chair massages to acknowledge the high risk of musculoskeletal disorders found in sonographer workplaces.
With the tools in our tool belt we learned at this conference, we plan to implement strategies regarding employee burnout and sustaining passion for sonographers. We learned more about EKG and critical thinking during our exams. “Are we truly practicing with a questioning attitude on every patient?” is a question that requires sonographers to rise to a higher performance standard. Mentorship, emotional intelligence, and mental health are huge pieces of the puzzle both in our roles here at Innovative and in every day life.
At Innovative Ultrasound Solutions, we hope we continue to foster a spirit of innovation, excitement, and exceptional patient care in the offices and clinics we serve. We look forward to our next conference and encourage any fellow sonographers to join us at SDMS 2025 in Denver, Colorado.
